Leah Hinks, a member of the Suffolk Craft Society, lives in Great Bealings near Woodbridge with her husband and three children.
She has a studio in a converted piggery where she works with porcelain clay to produce delightful and delicate jewellery and one-off pieces.
These include brooches, earrings, necklaces and cufflinks, spoons, plates, pots, pictures and salt dishes.
She was educated at Wimbledon School of Art and at the South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education, and takes her inspiration from the sea and from the environment around her.
She has exhibited all round the world with the British Council, and has had exhibitions at various galleries in London and Wales. Current exhibitions and links to the galleries concerned are listed on this site.
To quote from her entry in the Suffolk Craft Directory - "her work reflects her keen interest in the natural world, particularly the marine environment. Strips of porcelain are wrapped and layered like the structure of a shell, while the contrast of acqueous blues with the whiteness of porcelain - with a glint of lustre - perfectly captures the colours of the sea. Another significant feature of her work is the sound made by her jewellery: the individual elements of each piece being designed to whisper and chime as they brush against each other."
Commissions of any piece displayed, personalised for special occasions, are welcome. Some examples are shown on the Photos page. Contact her by phone or via the email link.
To see her work, please check on the Exhibition dates, or ring her to make an appointment on 01473 735880.
